Which lawnmower for 400, 800 or 2000 m²

A rough guide to choosing a lawnmower for an area of around 400, 800 or 2000 m²: electric, cordless, petrol, a STIHL iMOW robotic mower, Cub Cadet, a ride-on mower or a lawn tractor. We offer advice in Senica.

Petrol vs. cordless: when to choose petrol garden machinery and when cordless

A clear comparison of petrol and cordless lawnmowers: power, run time, noise, costs and storage. Find out when to choose petrol and when to go cordless, depending on your area and garden.

DAKR drum mower vs. rotary mower

A DAKR drum mower is the right choice for tall, thick or overgrown grass in a meadow, in an orchard and on unkempt ground. It lays the grass in a windrow and copes with growth that an ordinary rotary mower often struggles with. A rotary mower is better for a regularly mown ornamental lawn where you want collection in a grass box, mulching and an even finish.

When hobby-class is enough and when you need professional garden machinery

Hobby-class garden machinery is enough if you mow a regularly maintained small to medium-sized lawn, work an hour or two a week at most and want comfort, quiet and a reasonable price. A professional or heavier-duty class makes sense when the area, the working hours, the density of the grass or your expectations of a long service life go up.

Spring preparation and autumn winterising for your garden machine

Winterising in autumn extends the life of your lawnmower and related garden machinery. Preparing in spring makes sure the machine starts and mows cleanly right from the beginning of the season. With STIHL, STIGA, WOLF-Garten, Cub Cadet and DAKR petrol machines, it’s mainly about fuel, oil, the blade and cleaning.

How to choose a brushcutter

Choose a brushcutter to suit the growth: a mowing head with line or a metal blade, petrol or cordless STIHL, and a DAKR drum mower when that’s the better option.

How to choose a chainsaw

Choose a STIHL chainsaw to suit the job: guide bar length, hobby or a stronger class, petrol or cordless.

Mulching vs. collecting in a grass box

Mulching leaves the grass on the lawn as fertiliser, while collecting in a grass box leaves the surface clean. Here’s when to choose which.

Cordless lawnmower: how long the battery lasts and what affects run time

The battery run time of a cordless lawnmower isn’t a single number from a sales leaflet. It depends on capacity (Ah and Wh), the height and density of the grass, whether you mulch or collect, the terrain, the temperature and the condition of the blade. In a typical home garden with a well-kept lawn, a good STIHL cordless lawnmower will usually mow a small to medium-sized area on one charge.

What to do when your lawnmower tears the grass, vibrates or won’t start

When a lawnmower tears the grass, vibrates or won’t start, it’s usually no ‘mystery’. The cause is a blunt or bent blade, imbalance, fuel and the spark plug, the air filter, a flat battery on a cordless model or a safety switch. First carry out a safe check at home, and if there’s strong vibration, an oil leak or a suspected engine fault, take the machine in for servicing.

Self-propelled vs. push mower: which type to choose and when

A self-propelled drive saves your strength on a larger plot and on slopes. A push mower is enough for a smaller, level lawn.

Cub Cadet and SUPA TECHNIKA ride-on mowers: when a lawn tractor pays off

A ride-on mower usually pays off from roughly 1500 to 2000 m². Zak Services Senica offers Cub Cadet and SUPA TECHNIKA.

Winter storage of STIHL batteries and chargers

Store STIHL batteries over winter clean, dry and charged to roughly 40 to 60% (often two green LEDs), at a cool room temperature and away from both frost and heat. Unplug the charger from the mains and store it separately. This reduces the risk of deep discharge and premature ageing.

Safety when working with a brushcutter and a chainsaw

Working safely with a brushcutter and a chainsaw rests on three things: the right personal protective equipment (PPE), checking the machine before starting and a sensible decision about when not to start at all. STIHL machines have sharp cutting tools running at high speed.

Comparison: mowing a meadow with a brushcutter vs. a DAKR drum mower

A STIHL brushcutter is excellent for edges, slopes, ditches and smaller neglected patches. For a whole meadow, though, it’s often not the right main machine. On an open meadow, a DAKR drum mower usually wins on time, on fatigue and on the quality of the cut grass laid in a windrow.

Scarifying and aerating your lawn

Scarifying cuts through thatch and moss, while aerating loosens compacted soil. We explain when to do it, what depth is safe and what to do afterwards.

We explain the difference between a STIHL leaf blower and a 2-in-1 vacuum shredder, when to choose cordless or petrol and how to read the air flow and air speed figures.

STIHL iMOW robotic mower: when it’s a yes and when it’s a no

A STIHL iMOW pays off for a lawn that’s kept short and mulched all the time and has a sensible shape. Find out when a conventional lawnmower or a ride-on mower wins instead.

Wire or RTK satellite navigation? How a robot determines the edge of the lawn, when a STIHL iMOW with a perimeter wire is the right fit, when a wire-free STIGA robot is, and what to ask before you buy.
